FERTILISER INDUSTRY

ACTION BY GOVERNMENT ALLEGATION OF DELICENSING [from OUF. OWN correspondent] WHANGAREI, Thursday A charge that tho Labour Government had delicensed the New Zealand fertiliser industry in order to surmount tho difficulty which had arisen in connection with the Whangarei application for phosphate works was made by Mr. A. J. Murdoch, one of tho National Party nominees for tho Marsden seat during an address to members of tho Whangarei branch last night. Stating that this allegation was a true statement of tho position, Mr. Murdoch said that ho would probably be severely attacked by members of the Labour Party. The whole industry, he continued, had been brought under the provisions of the Industrial Efficiency Act, and had been delicensed. Tho net result was that works could be erected anywhere. Mr. P. 11. Gardner, the other National Party nominee for the Marsden seat, who also addressed tho meeting, stressed the length of time which had elapsed between the date of tho Whangaroi application and the decision reached by tho Bureau of Industry.
