ST. JAMES' THEATRE •Tho charming young soprano Deanna Burbin is the lending player in the New Universal production "One Hundred Men and a Girl," which is now in its third week at St. .Tames' Theatre. Tho Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Leopold Stokowski, also appears prominently. In addition to the musical interest tho film has a very appealing story. PLAZA THEATRE Tho popular juvenile actress Jane Withers is seen in her most entertaining moods in "Wild and Woolly," which is to continue its season at the Plaza Theatre to-day. The film has a picturesque setting in a small AVestern town, and Walter Brennan gives a highly amusing characterisation as a retired bandit. There is a fine supporting programme. MAJESTIC THEATRE Florence Rice and Robert Young head a large and capable east in "Married before Breakfast," the main item on the current double-feature programme at the Majestic Theatre. The film is a romantic comedy. The second attraction is a story of the American underworld, "Trapped by G-Men,'' in which Jack Holt gives a stirring portrayal. CIVIC THEATRE Alexander Korda's film "Action for Slander," in which Clive Brook gives one of his best performances since "Cavalcade," will again be screened at the Civic Theatre to-day. He takes the part of Major George Daviot, an English army officer who is unjustly accused of cheating at poker. The story culminates in an exciting slander action, where the difficulties are cleared up. Margaretta Scott and Ann Todd appear in supporting roles. REGENT THEATRE The polished actress Joan Crawford gives one of her most colourful portrayals in "The Bride Wore lted," which will continue its season at the Regent Theatre to-day. She is seen as a cabaret entertainer on the Trieste waterfront who is given a chance to act the part of a "grand lady" for a fortnight. She soon becomes the "belle" of Lotsclien, where she spends her holiday, and two young men, Rudi, rich and irresponsible, and Guilio, the town postman, whom she herself prefers, fall in love with her. Subsecpient events are amusing as well as exciting. A supporting programme which contains many interesting features will also be shown. MAYFAIR THEATRE The discovery of a Utopian country in an inaccessible part of Tibet forms tho theme of "Lost Horizon," the screen version of James Hilton's famous story, which is the main attraction on the programme to be shown today at the Mayfair Theatre. Magnificent scenic settings and brilliant acting by a cast tnat includes Bonald Colman, H. B. Warner, Jane Wyatt and Edward Everett Horton combine to make the film excellent entertainment. Opening on Friday at the Mayfair Theatre will be the Butcher Empire picture "Little Miss Somebody," which features the child actress Binkie Stuart, who is supported by John Longden and Kathleen Kelly. The story is an attractive one, combining romance and drama and giving the child actress the opportunity to display her considerable talents; In connection with the picture a "Binkie Stuart" competition is to be held, the details of which are advertised. ( ■ TIVOLI THEATRE Robert Taylor and Loretta Young appear together in the film "Private Number," which heads the guest-night programme to be shown at the Tivoli Theatre to-night. Another full-length picture of different type, "The Last Outlaw," will also be shown. Hoot Gibson h&s a : leading role in this picture, which is an exciting Western drama. The supporting programme is of an equally high standard, and includes a comedy, a musical revue and an interesting short travel film. STRAND THEATRE Sonja Henie, the world figure skating champion, makes a welcome return to the screen in "Thin Ice," the Twentieth Century-Fox production now at the Strand Theatre. Tyrone Power and Arthur Treacher also are prominent in the cast. The story concerns the romance of a Swiss skating instructress, a part taken by Sonja Henie. The programme includes a "March of Time" newsreel. CRYSTAL PALACE AND RIALTO A thrilling aerial film, "Flight from Glory,'' heads the programme to be screened to-night at the Crystal Palace and Rialto Theatres. "Night of Mystery" is the second attraction. STATE THEATRE . A brilliant film of. the fishiug fleets on the Grand Banks, "Captains Courageous," will continue its season at the State Theatre to-night. Spencer Tracy and Freddie Bartholomew have leading roles. STAR CINEMA "Merry Widow" will be screened on an entertaining programme at the Star Cinema to-day. Also included is the strong film "One New York Night." LONDON CINEMA Two entertaining full-length 'films, "To Beat the Band" and "Too Tough to Kill" will be presented to patrons of the London Cinema to-day. TUDOR CINEMA George Arliss gives one of his best performances of recent years in "East Meets West," the film which is to be screened at the Tudor Cinema to-night. •; | PRINCE EDWARD THEATRE Joan Bennett has a leading role in "Big Brown Eyes," which will bo screened to-night at the Prince Edward Theatre, the second feature being entitled "Timothy's Quest." ASTOR THEATRE Two entertaining films f "Transient Lady" and "Trapped by Television," will be presented at the Astor Theatre to-night. PRINCESS THEATRE "The Plough and the Stars" will be screened to-night at the Princess Theatre together with "The Law in Her Hands." STATE THEATRE, DEVONPORT The strong double-feature programme "Yellow Dust" and "Every Saturdaj Night'' will be shown, at the State Theatre, Devoriport, to-night. STATE THEATRE, ONEHUNGA Mae West appears in the cle\*er film "Go West, Young Man," which heads the strong programme at the State Theatre, Onahunga, to-night.
