AUSTRALIA'S CLOSE VICTORY FRENCH TEAM DEFEATED (Received January 10, 5.5 p.m.) * BORDEAUX, Jan. 9 A crowd of 15,000 watched an exciting Rugby League match in which the touring Australian side defeated a team representing the South-west of France by 12 points to 11. The half-time score was 11 —10 in the Frenchmen's favour. ; The Australians narrowly escaped defeat. They led by 10 points to 3 early in the game, but the French team rallied and held an advantage at the interval. A penalty goal by Beaton, which was the only score in the second half, gave the Australians victory.
