VISIT TO AUSTRALIA PLAYERS FROM AUCKLAND ENTERTAINMENT BY CENTRE In response to the invitation of the Auckland Bowling Centre, a largo number of bowlers who are going to Australia to take part in tho Centenary carnival and the British Empire Games attended the Carlton Club's green yesterday afternoon, when they were entertained and given an official sendoff by the local executive. Tho following players from other parts were also present:—Messrs. D. S. Robertson, Gisborne; Rogers, Ngaruawahia; 8. R. Hawken, Hamilton; Jackson and T. Petty, New Plymouth. Air. Petty will act as co-manager of the party, with Mr. A. E. Whitten as manager. These two gentlemen will act as selectors to choose the seven representatives required to take part in the bowls section of the Empire Games. They have power to co-opt any assistance they may deem advisable. -A At the tea adjournment the president of the centre, Mr. W. J. Truscott, welcomed the players, and tendered the best wishes of local and Dominion bowlers for the success of the Auckland rinks in the Centenary carnival and of the representatives engaged on behalf of the Dominion in the Empire Games. Mr. Truscott said he could not let the opportunity pass without reference to the fine organising work done by Mr. T. C. Schnackenberg. This had resulted in excellent representation for the Dominion. Mr. .Whitten said he was pleased to be associated with a party of bowlers in whom ho had every confidence. ENGLISH VISITORS FINAL MATCH OF TOUR i ' [by telegraph OWN correspondent] PALMERSTON NORTH, Monday In the last game of their tour before embarking at Wellington to-morrow for Australia, the English bowlers who have been touring New Zealand, met Manawatu players to-day, winning an enjoyable match by an aggregate of 86 points to 83. Two of the visiting rinks won their games, one was won by Manawatu, and one halved. Manawatu ladies, who played a friendly game against a rink of visiting ladies, were also successful.
