HOME SCIENCE TUTOR
CANTERBURY ENTERPRISE DOMESTIC PROBLEMS FACED As a result of the proposal made by the Association for Country Education to place a resident home science tutor at Rangiora, rural women in that section of North Canterbury will benefit through a type of educational service which is considered throughout America and the Continent to be one of the most practical and effective that exists, states a Christ church paper. For the last three years, the rural women in Canterbury have been ablo to secure information through the home science section of the Association for Country Education, but the personal services of tutors have necessarily been curtailed, owing to the inadequate number of available tutors in proportion to the size of the territory which should be nerved.
During 1937, the resident tutor services introduced in Central Otago and Southland have met with so much success that it has been decided to expand this type of work and to offer Rangiora a resident tutor, as it is felt that there are in the district many women who are interested in scientific information about their home problems, and are progressive enough to give their support to something more comprehensive and thorough than anything that has previously been attempted in the adult education field. The rural women's organisations are being asked to promise that they will employ the tutor as lecturer at a certain number of their meetings, and that local women in general will undertake to support any classes which demand may indicate are wanted. The tutor, whose salary and travelling expenses will be paid from the Association for Country Education funds, will devote her entire working hours to the service of the women of the district.
