SLING OF TIMBER FALLS [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION J GREYMOUTH. Monday When part of a sling of Australian hardwood being unloaded front the steamer Karepo at Greymouth at i.M o'clock this afternoon became loose the whole sling collapsed and a waterside worker, Mr. John Melntyre, aged 60. married, with eight children, was struck by three 501b. 12ft. lengths of hardwood. He suffered serious head and chest injuries and was admitted to the Grey Hospital. His condition is serious. The sling had been prepared in the ordinary way, hut. a sudden jerk caused three pieces of hardwood to loosen rest of the wling. which fell over the greater part of the hold. Mr. Melntyre. who was standing in a wing on the port side, was unable, to get clear.
