"MUST NOT DRINK"
WARNING TO MOTORISTS FINE FOR INTOXICATION "Men with cars must not drink," said Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., when Raymond .William Britten, commercial traveller, aged 23, charged with being intoxicated in charge of a motor-car in Quay Street oil Saturday, appeared in the Police Court yesterday. Accused, who was represented by Mr. Hogben, pleaded guilty. Sub-Inspector Fox said accused stopped his car near Queen Street at 6.20 p.m., and when he saw two constables,, he got out and staggered away, leaving another man, also intoxicated, in the car. Half an hour after he was arrested accused was declared unfit to drive. Mr. Hogben said accused felt all right when he left the hotel, but the fresh air affected him. He had never been in trouble before. The magistrate imposed a fine of £25 and costs, -and suspended accused's licenoe for tliree months. The period of suspension of the licence was reduced from six to three months when accused gave an assurance that he would take out a prohibition order.
