CAMP FOR CHILDREN
SUNSHINE ASSOCIATION COMMENCEMENT TO-DAY Preparations for the Community Sunshine Association's health camp at Motuihi Island have been completed by the honorary superintendent of the camp, Major N. J. Levien, and members of his staff, and the first group of 150 children will leave Auckland by the Hauiti at 9.30 this morning. The holiday will last two weeks, and there will be two other camps for a similar period during the summer holidays. The gatherings will continue until May, school instruction having been arranged by the Auckland Education Board.
All children selected for the first three camps come from the city, but in later ones towns as far apart as Whangarei and Taumarunui will be represented. There will also be a special camp of 150 Maori children taken from 47 native schools throughout the province. Owing to the greater number of children to be accommodated this summer, 1500 in all, a staff of 20 people has been engaged, including a matron and a trained probationary nurse. Special diet charts will ba kept, following a meal system prepared by members of the Auckland Hospital staff. All the children will wear uniforms, which, together with other clothes, will be supplied by the associatioh. The provision of facilities for the enjoyment of organised games should prove one of the most popular features, and the children will be given instruction in swimming, as well as other sports.
