LABOUR AFFILIATION

RAILWAYMEN'S VOTE OPPOSED BY CLERICAL STAFF By a substantial majority, clerical workers employed by the Railway Department throughout the Dominion have decided that they do not favour affiliation with the New Zealand Labour Party. A vote was taken under the auspices of the Railway Officers' Institute, which claims as its members 3100 of the 21,000 persons employed by the, department. The poll closed on November 30, and a large majority voted against the proposal for affiliation.

In a vote held some months ago the main body of railway employees, the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, which embraces some *12,000 workers, decided in favour of affiliation.
