SUMMER FLOWERS
BEDDING-OUT IN PARKS FINE DISPLAYS PROMISED Bedding-out of flowers for the summer displays in the city's parks and gardens is still in progress. There should be striking masses of bloom in Albert Park. Near the fountain are beds just planted with salvias, begonias and Madam Selroy geraniums. Close to these are groups of begonias, in which arenaria is to provide a ground work, while alternanthera will form borders. Zinnias and dahlias have just been planted in beds in the vicinity. Notwithstanding the area of new planting and of Tbeds yet to be completed, there are still some fine displays of flowers. Although far from attaining their proper height as yet, gannas are not only in profuse bloom, but the hues are also remarkably good. Polyanthus roses are at their height, and the border along Princes Street provides fine colour contrasts, with delphiniums in varied blues making a substantial contribution to the scheme. Most of the beds in the Domain are in much the same condition as those in Albert Park. In the tropical house is a nice showing of cymbidium, while foliage plants are beginning to assert themselves. In the cool house primulas provide masses of delicate colour. Begonias have just been moved in and flowering is yet uneven. This week streptocarpus will bo brought into the cool house. While the rose garden in Parnell Park is now past its best, polyanthus roses still provide attractive beds. A feature this season has been the fine growth of the young trees and a comparative absence of disease.
