.. AMALGAMATION BILL . AUCKLAND; OPPOSITION ~ !, : "It -is ..necessary to explain that at the- jast meeting of the Auckland Suburban Local Bodies'. Association the question df-amalgamation * of local bodies was fully discussed and it was decided to send Mr, H. A. Anderson, Mayor of Mount Albert, ■ and myself to Wellington," said" Mr. I. J. Goldstine, Mayor of One Tree Hill, at a meeting of the One Tree Hill Borough Council last night. It was intended, he added, that they should give evidence before the committee of tho House of Representatives which was taking evidence on the. bill. The evidence given by Mr. Anderson and himself would be in opposition to the bill, Tho association was primarily opposed to compulsory amalgamation, added Mr. Goldstine, and had also decided that evidence should bo on the lines of the report submitted to the One Tree Hill Borough Council by its dork. There were approximately 20 local bodies represented on the association and it would be appreciated that evidence on their behalf would be entitled to some weight. This evidence would be heard' in the new year.
