CASEMENT AICKIN BURSARY THE CONDITIONS FIXED With a total of £499' 16s subscribed to the memorial fund, the conditions ,to govern the Casement Aickin bursary at the Auckland University College were determined at the annual meeting off,the Auckland branch of the NewZealand, division of the British Medical Association yesterday. Following Mr. Aickin's death last year the fund was opened ,to commemorate his able and generous work as a surgeon. Of the total received, £7O was obtained through the list opened by the New Zealand Herald while the Auckland Hospital Board contributed £52 10s, The general public subscribed £lO3 4s 6dj > nurses £37 10s 3d and medical practitioners £229 Is 6d. Subsequently, interest amounting to £7 9s 9d has accrued. Yesterday a sufficient additional amount was voted by tho branch to provide a- capital sum of £SOO in order that a bursary would be awarded in 1938. , The college council had agreed to administer the fund, .it was stated. The conditions provide that the capital is to be invested by the trustees and tho bursary, which is to bo awarded annually, will be open only to students taking "their first-year medical course at Auckland University College. It will be tenable for the successful candidate's second year at Otago University. The award is to be mad<? by a committee elected by the college council, together with the president for the year of the Auckland branch of the British' Medi-: cal' Associations and due regard is-to be given to scholastic attainments, personal character and financial need. The following officers for the Auckland branch of tho association wore elected: —President, Dr. I 1 rank Macky; vice-president, Dr. F. J. Gwynne; executive,, Drs. C. McDowell, E. G. Sayers, F. R. Smale and J. Dreadon;. Hon. secretary, Dr. S. B. Morris; hon. treasurer, Dr; Bruce Mackenzie.
