NOTES ON RUNNING ALLOA'S IMPROVEMENT EASY WIN FOR RACE CALL SUPERIOR JUMPING OF RIOTOUS [BY TELKCIIAPJI —OWN CORRESPONDENT] PALMER STON NORTH, Tuesday Superior jumping gave Riotous the victory over Round Score in the Cheltenham Hurdles. Round Score made a mistake at nearly every fence, in contrast to his first day's display. Top Hat and Begorrah weakened at the finish, after making all the running. Alloa, who has mended his barrier manners, came home too strongly for the favourite, Amatory, in the Maiden Race. They finished well clear of the others, but the third horse, Stargono, was unlucky in losing a deal of ground at the start. Baron Bold was backed to improve, but ho played up badly at the post and, although ho got away well, he was beaten on the turn. The Buzzer outclassed the opposition in the St. Andrew's Handicap, improving on his first day's performance. He should bo able to win a good race at' Christmas. Lone Raider, essaying a journey for the first time, finished better than Corroboree, who had made all the running to the straight, but weakened a bit again at the bend. Clessamor improved with his race of the first day, and lie won tho four- 1 horse Colyton Handicap nicely. Lady Ina chased him homo hard at tho bond, 1 but Mata Hari did not show tho samo I brilliance under her extra weight. j Dunmanway gave tho supporters of j Rarotonga some anxious moments in j the Oroua Nursery Handicap, but he was always going a little the bettor. Lacquer brought olf the surprise of the meeting in the Rongotea Handicap. Always racing near tho front, she was pulled in behind the leader, Ned Cuttle, and then, in the run home, sho scored a complete victory. Winsome Lu improved to beat Middle for second, and Ned Cuttle was tho only other horso in tho picture at the finish. Lacquer was tried over hurdles on the first day, but she jumped very badly. Race Call had tho Nikau Handicap won most of the way, waiting his time to pounce on the leader, Great Hope, who characteristically weakened at the finish. Wagner and Alunga both finished ifell, but too late to catch tho winner t Taitoru, with a chango of rider from the first day, was made favourite in the Empiro Handicap, and ho won narrowly in a close finish from Wildflower and Lady Kyra. Taitoru was improved by his gallop oil Saturday, but the shorter journey was also to his liking. Lady Kyra also improved, but 1 she was not quite good enough.
