PALMERSTON NORTH JUBILEE [BY TKLF.GKA ph—OWN courespondknt] WELLINGTON, Thursday Specially invited to attend Palincrston North's diamond jubilee celebrations, which are now in progress, Mr. W. T. Wood, who was seven times 'Mayor of that city and represented it it for six years in the House of Representatives, arrived at Wellington in tho Wanganella from Sydney, accompanied by Mrs. Wood. About 10 years ago Mr. Wood left New Zealand for Australia, and now resides at IJondi, Sydney. Ho was born in Bobart, Tasmania, and came to New Zealand in 1872, finding employment with several Duncdin linns. Three years later lie loft for the West Coast, and after establishing a business at Kumara took part in several of the early gold rushes along the coast. "When the bottom fell out of Kumara I went up to Wanganui in 1879," said .Mr. Wood. Then lie went to l J a liners ton North, and lived there for between 40 and 50 years. He took an extremely active part in municipal affairs, and ho watched tho township with its 800 inhabitants grow to city dimensions.
