TWO FINE FIELDS

UNHOPPLED DIVISION % QUERIDA'S IMPROVED FORM GOOD PROSPECTS OF WAINGAKE BY ABAYDOS It is many years since 24 trotters have been listed in a race at Epsom, as is the case for the Waiteinata Handicap on Saturday. - Of the limit division Pink Lady, runner-up in February to the South Island trotter Listowel, who has won twice since, has the best form, and lately appears to have become a little more solid. Sophy Bingen has several placings, but is too erratic to bo a very safe betting proposition. Heather Glow was third at Thames, and may show improvement for A. W. Broughton, who now trains her. Worthy Lu can trot fast and the day she goes correctly all the way should be prominent. Wilkin wont impressively at the matinee meeting, and should be benefited by that experience. Matinee Winner . Pirate's Last won- nicely at the matinee meeting, although he made mistakes early. When he develops solidness he should prove very useful. Lady Musk lias good action, but has not yet gained, confidence. Flash By, All Bingen and Moira Bingen are green, but should not be discredited if they repeat their private form. On her form at Hamilton Lady Bunker should have good prospects. Colleen Murphy showed up in June, but broke a lot in August. Qucrida displayed marked improvement when she won at the last meeting. and should not be without prospects off 48 yards. She is bred on good trotting lines, and should improve with age. Waingake is a stylish trotter with more than average speed, and if he has settled down solidly should be difficult to beat. His winning effort at Hawera was full of merit. Elissa has a rare turn of speed, but has yet to learn to control it. Mute ran some creditable races last season and may not be out of it from 120 . yards. It should bo a good betting race and some to find favour may be Pink Lady, Pirate's Last, Lady Bunker, Querida, Waingake and Mute. Two Miles Event The two miles Mountain Handicap has drawn a fine field. Kuini has raced for some time in the South Island, and rejoined F. J. Smith's stable in August. If she is back to form she should go well. Roi Grande is carrying a bright appearance, but may be in need of racing. If he maintained a correct gait, Carl Mack would be dangerous, but he is very uncertain. Imposter is a double-gaited horse and has won both as a pacer and a trotter. Audo Patch has some iiseful performances to his credit and since returning from a lengthy spell has been trotting well. Native Tree completed last season by scoring from a fine field at Epsom. She i has developed into a solid mare,'and may take a lot of beating. Young Rodney won last October and then suffered- ! a lapse of form. He has been working in improved style, and is probably better than for some time past. In her latest races Parrish Belle has competed against the pacers, and . put up a fine performance when she went 2.46 1-5 to finish second to Rongomai. She does not appear to Be back to that fine form, but her solidness should assist her in this field. Polly Pan is very speedy, but does not always go solidly. She failed at Addington in August through bad-breaks, but may have made some improvement. Meadow King is good on his day and one of the best stayers in- the field. 3 The race is full of possibilities and some i who may be fancied , are Native Tree, . Young Rodney, Polly Pan and Meadow i King.

EPSOM TRAINING DIRT TRACK TRIALS TASK OF KEWPIE'S KING - RANFURLY LASS GOES WELL - BY ABAYDOS Only three pacers, Kewpie's King, Ranfurly Lass and Silver Watch, were given fast hoppled work at Epsom yesterday on the dirt track and theyran half-miles in 1.5,' 1.5 2-5 and 1.5 4-5 respectively.'"Many horses did strong work on the sand, which gave easier footing, pending the final grasstrack trials to take place to-day. Silver "Watch (L. J. Mahoney), Kewpie's King (D. Gillard) and Ranfurly Lass (A. Bryce) left the mile and a-lialf at intervals of one second. Silver Watch went to the half-mile in 1.9 and was still slightly in front at the mile in 2.17 1-5. As the leader passed the mile and a-quarter in 2.50, Kewpie's King and Ranfurly Lass moved up, and, •once in line, Kewpie's King ran through to win in 3.21. He showed dash to run the half in 1.5. Kewpie's King has come through a sound preparation. Ranfurly Lass gave a good display in going 3.22. Silver Watch showed improvement in registering 3.23. The grey, who has taken a long time to shew •anything like his promising form of two seasons ago, ran the last mile and a-quarter in 2.45.

Mandalay (D. 0. Jones) was given a useful unhoppled task the reverse way and she showed improvement jn handling the turns. She has furnished nicely and will be raced at the Thames meeting on Saturday week. .T, A. Gerrard'e trotters, Native Tree and All Bingen, were given strong work on the sand. Native Tree looks a picture. All Bingen does not appear as robust as her stable mate and is affected with stringhalt. She is bred on sound trotting lines. Roi Grande (A. Pat on) trotted two miles and was keen to go fast. He bears a healthy appearance and has thrived on plenty of work on the sand._ Fisher, who has gone sore, was restricted to easy work.

Gold Kip (W. C. Willetts) made no mistakes while trotting two miles. He works well on the sand, but does not show the same solidness on the harder tracks. Jewel Crest, who has improved since the matinee meeting, was given a strong unhoppled two-miles task.

Vanora (N. Mahoney) was not »sked for his best while working a mile and a-half unhoppled. Frank Best (J. McKendrickV paced freely over a mile and a-half. He has made a. good deal of improvement and may soon return to his best.

Pink Lady (B. Dyer) trotted smoothly for a mile and three-quarters. She has settled down since her tasks have been of a moderate nature. Her best effort for Dyer was a mile and a-half on Tuesday on the grass in 3.53 in company with Pirate's Last. ASSET FOR TAKANINI TRANSFER FROM HASTINGS [by telegraph—own correspondent] HASTINGS. Wednesday The Paper Money >are Asset has left Hastings to join A., yuinli van's stable at Takamm. _ Asset h s shown speed, but has persisted m running wide »t the turns, so he* owner has formed the opinion that right-handed tracks may be in he* favour.
