The weather lias been fine to-day and the forecast is for improved conditions. Wotan and International placed a mile behind in 1.575. Other Caulfield Chip candidates did gentle tasks. All appear to- be fit. Unusual conditions have upset Willie Win, but his connections hope that he will be fit to run to-morrow. Wotan and Desert Chief are not favoured by soft going, and a decision whether they •will run in the Caulfield Cup will be left until to-morrow. The jockey P. Atkins has arrived in Melbourne. UNBEATEN NOVICES HAWKE'S BAY CONTINGENT OVER THIRTY FOR TRENTHAM [by telegraph—own correspondent] HASTINGS. Tuesday The last of the many Hawke's Bay candidates left to-day for Trentham, making the grand total over .'3O. Tbrco hurdlers made the trip. Journet is very fit, and, with the going hard, his chances will be greatly fancied, but • Blue Tiger and John Charles need a holding track to give of their beat. If Ivar recovers from the cold which prevented his acceptance for tho first day he may be heard of at tho meeting. Otherwise Night Attack may bo the best of tho Hawke's Bay two-year-olds.

13ig Dook is very fit and forward and liis chances in the Wainui Handicap are believed to be very good. He was unlucky not to win the Spring Handicap at Hastings 12 days ago. Geira is a smart galloper, but a straight six furlongs may find her weakening. Hunting Cat is finding tho harder tracks anything but to his liking, but if J. A. Forsyth is strong enough to restrain him early Soho is expected to run a capital race in the Wellington Handicap, in spite of the good class of the other runners.

Joviality, Black Thread and Pakamii arc useful sprinters, while for the concluding two days they will be reinforced by Ben Braggie, who should go close to securing a stake before going on to contest the Stewards' Handicap at Riccarton. Royal Minstrel is tho best of tho Hawke's Bay quartetto cugaged in the October Handicap, as 011 Saturday he ran once round the Hastings track in 1.38.

White Gold, Lindrum and Lady Chat, engaged on the second and third days in tho Trial and Novice Handicaps, are perhaps the best three novices the district has Sent away at the 0110 time for many years. All are outstanding novices and all are yet unbeaten this season. The first-named won at Wanganui, Lindrum won at Hastings, dead-heating at Masterton, where Lady Clint won in her only start, on the first day, in hollow fashion. Local opinion is divided between them, but over seven furlongs, the second day's distance, Lady Chat may prove the host. Brunhild, who is on the eve of returning to form, has made the trip for the second and third days' racing, as also have Taro and Blue Shirt. All have fair prospects on recent track form. WATKATO HUNT RACES ACCEPTANCES CLOSE TO-DAY Acceptances for the Waikato Hunt races at Cambridge on -Monday close to-day at 5 p.m. with Blomfield and Company, Auckland, or with the secretary. Mr. T. H. Hampshire, Cambridge. Bass. 7.8, should he included in tho list of weights for flie Bnintwood Hack Handicap, (ij furlongs.
