NORTHCOTE INTERESTS
SPEED LIMIT ON HIGHWAY CEMETERY SCHEME OPPOSED The speed limit in Northcote was discussed at a meeting of the Northcote Borough Council last evening, when a letter was received from the Commissioner of Transport that the Minister, the Hon. It. Semple, had approved the removal of the 30-milcs-an-hour restriction on the Lake Road section of the main highway from the borough boundary at Takapuna to Raleigh Road only. The limit will therefore remain in force between Raleigh Road and the war memorial at the Onewa Road intersection. It was decided to reply that while the council noted that the restriction remained on the most dangerous part of the road, it recorded dissent to the raising of the speed limit on any road, or portion of a road, within the borough. Permission was given for a combined street collection on November 26 for the funds of the Victoria League, Navy League, Royal Life-saving Society, and Auckland Surf Association. ' A unanimous decision was made to resist the proposal of the Devonport Borough Council to establish a cemetery just outside the northern boundary of the borough. The location proposed is an area of nearly 25 acres on the eastern side of Northcote Road, and opposite the Government electrical sub-station for the north shore. The North Shore Golf Club's links are also in the vicinity.
