SALISBURY PLAIN NUMEROUS IMPROVEMENTS BETTER BOOTS FOR SOLDIERS (Received October 15, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 15 The Larkliill camp on Salisbury Plain is being completely rebuilt. The huts are being replaced by brick structures of modern design, schools and otbar establishments extended, and accommodation provided for new units. The War Office has decreed that the men of the Army shall have better boots and has let a contract for 60,000 pairs, which the Daily Mail says are "like those which country gentlemen wear."
BRITISH RECRUITS
NUMBERS INCREASING ARMY AND TERRITORIALS ; (Received October 15, 6.5 pjii.) British Wireless ' RUGBY. Oct. 14 The intake of recruits for all arms in the Regular Army last week was 421, being an increase of 73 over the corresponding week last year. In September, 1906 recruits were approved for the Territorial Army. September —the month after the majority of the camps —is usually onfc of=4ittle Territorial activity and the monthly return in the past has shown a fall in numbers. Last month, however, for the first time in 12 years, the total numbers of the members of the Territorial Army actually rose. The number of recruits approved represents an increase of 22.5 per cent on the corresponding month last year. . •
