Melville. —Mrs. Buckland presided and Mrs. Treloar demonstrated the making of wood pulp flowers. Competition results were as follows:—"Wits and bits": Mrs. Prisk, land2. Prettiest coat hanger: Mrs. Sheehan, 1; Mrs. Prisk, 2. Small woollen article: Mrs. Payne, 1; Mrs. Haverbier, 2. Social competition: Mrs. Wood. Fencourt. —A demonstration of the working of a sewing machine was given at the last meeting, when Mrs. Shaw presided. Miss Lily Bone was elected delegate to the council meeting to be held this month. The points prize for the cooking competitions over the whole year was won by Mrs. O'Keefl'e, and the arts competitions by Mrs. Toinsitt. Other competition results were as follows:—Wholemeal sponge, Mrs. Turnhull, 1; Mrs. Goodman and Mrs. C'ubis, 2. Jubilee.—Mrs. Hogarth presided. Competition results were as follows: Jar of spring flowers: Mrs. Thorn ley, 1; Mrs. Vernall, 2. Pikelets: -Airs. Harvey, 1; Mrs. Maclean, 2. Barhola work: Mrs. MoLauchlan. A lecture* on phrenology was given by Air. Treloar. Banjo solos were given by Mrs. McLauchlan, and Mrs. Wilson was in charge of the trading table. To Uku.—Mrs. Moore presided at the last mooting when members stood in silence as a mark of sympathy with a member who had suffered bereavement. Mrs. Byrne, who was elected delegate to the biennial meeting, gave a demonstration of making waxed paper flowers. Competition winners were Miss. Gibbison, Mrs. D'Ath and Mrs. Oliver. Nawton-Botokauri.—A social afternoon was recently held, the proceeds being devoted to the Sunshine League. The programme was arranged by Mrs. Owsley and was contributed to by Mrs. Wilson, .Airs. Bradley, Mrs. Bebe and Mrs. Buchanan. Mrs. Bonner was the accompanist. A bring-and-buy stall did brisk business.
Horsham Downs. —The sixth birthday was celebrated at a party at which the president, Mrs. Wade, presided. A programme was contributed to by Mrs. A. Henderson, Mrs. !{. Wade, Mrs. J. Preest, Miss Joy Graham, Miss Joan Houltain, Mrs. D. Bruce, Miss M. Bruce, Miss B. Haycock and Miss 11. Osborne, who gave a short play. Ngatea.—The seventh birthday was celebrated when the president, Mrs. J. Galvin, welcomed- about 150 representatives from other branches. Items were given by Mrs. M. Waite, Mrs. W. Williams, Mrs. Jackson, Mrs. Hallett, Mrs. Hughes and Miss I. Waite. The birthday cake, made by Mrs. Keyes and iced by Mrs. Howard Dalgety, was cut by the president.
