L. Paterson, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday, with the theft oi a chest of tools, valued at £lO, from a fellow lodger at a boarding house. Sergeant T. Kelly, who prosecuted, said that in a statement to the police accused said he wanted money and took the tools to a second-hand dealer s shop ill Frankton, where be sold them for 30s. The money had since been spent. This was accused's first, offence, and a term on probation might be appropriate. ' Accused was convicted and placed on probation fur a year, and was ordered to pay back the' !K)s.
