BUILDING COSTS
INDICATION OF ADVANCE PERMITS IN MOUNT ALBERT "Although the-number of permits is reduced, the value has substantially increased, particularly with dwellings," said the Mayor, Mr. H. A. Anderson, at a meeting of. the' Mount Albert Borough Council on Tuesday when referring to building permits issued by the council during the six months ended September 30, 1937, compared with those, for the corresponding period last Tear. That fact, he, added, gave a clear indication of the advance in building costs. The town clerk, Mr. T. R. Congalton, reported that from April to September, 1937, 124 permits for work valued at £33,632 had been issued compared with 161 permits and £28,937 in the same period of 1936. '1 be 1937 figures included permits for 24 dwellings valued at £20,025 and eight ilats valued at £5950, as against 38 permits for dwellings costing £23,738 in the corresponding si.y months Inst year. Commenting upon the figures, the town clerk stated that the average cost of dwellings in the 1937 period was £834, compared with an average of £620 last year., "While the number of dwellings had decreased by over 33 per cent, the value had increased by the san;o percentage.
