EXTRA EARNINGS
MEN ON 40-HOUR WEEK DISCUSSION AT PAPAKURA "There are a number of men in this country not getting a week's wages and I consider the board's employees who are on a 40-hour Aveek should not take extra outside work," said Mr. D. Weir, at the Papakura Town Board meeting. He moved that they be instructed not to take outside work in future. Mr. G. F. McDonald: If I were offered a job outside my office hours I would jolly soon take it. After our employees have done their work their time is their own. Mr. J. Richardson remarked that railway employees were debarred from taking outside work. Mr. Weir: A Minister of the Crown has laid it down with regard to public works that employees shall not take additional work, t and has plainly intimated to tho men what will happen if they do. Mr. H. Bartells said he did not approve of tho practice of men on full time taking on odd jobs.
Mr. Weir amended his motion to read: "That, this board considers it undesirable for its employees to accept paid work other than provided by the hoard." „
