DUPLICATION OF, NAMES NINETEEN ELLERSLIE CASES The re-nam'ng of 19 streets in the Ellerslie district is should the city and suburban ]ocal bodies adopt proposals submitted to them by the Chief Postmaster at Auckland, Mr. W. G. Cooper. - ' * . ■ A report on the schedule of street names, which are duplicated in the metropolitan area, was submitted by the town clerk, Mr. J. W. Carr. It stated that a change in the name of Ellerslie streets was recommended in 19 instances. Mr. Carr said this, comprised the majority of-the township'o streets. Mr. A. H. Mclntyro said it was a waste of time. The postal district/.designation had been introduced to avoid; confusion. " I question if one letter-in ton millions is delayed under the present name-system," he added. _ Several members said" the elimination of confusion would be worth while. They expressed dcubt whether the local bodies would agree to change names which had a sentimental or other local appeal. " There should be a metropolitan registration office, where all new street names proposed should be "filed to prevent duplication in future," said Mr. S. Somerfield.

It was decided to refer the proposals to the Auckland Suburban Local Bodies' Association.
