DRIVERS IN COURT

INTOXICATION CHARGES FINE OF £25 IMPOSED NO LICENCE FOR FIVE YEARS A charge of being intoxicated while driving a motor-car in Great North 'Road on Tuesday was admitted by an engineer, Norman Percy Pattullo, aged 'l3 (Mr. Fraer), when 110 appeared before Mr. \V. H. McKean, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday. Sub-Inspector Fox said accused was involved in a collision with another car while driving on the wrong side in Great North Boad. One of the passengers in the other car was slightly injured, and another suffered shock. Accused later admitted to a constable that he had had six drinks of beer that day. Six quart bottles of beer were found iu his car.

"Accused has been twice previously convicted for offences of this nature, the last time being in 1935," said Mr. Fox. His disqualification from holding a licence expired only 011 August 19, although I notice that tho licence ho possesses was issued on June 11."

Mr. Fox added that a doctor who examined accused an hour after the accident .found him definitely intoxicated and unfit to bo in charge of a motor-car. Mr. Fraer said accused had been working that morning on a diesel engine, the fumes of which had mado him drowsy. Tho magistrate imposod a fine of £25, in default two months' imprisonment. Accused was disqualified from holding a driver's licence for five years. OFFENCE BY DEALER ACCIDENT AT PARNELL

A dealer, Francis Churtain Triggs, aged 30, pleaded guilty in the Police Court yesterday to being intoxicated while in charge of a motor-van on Tuesday. A charge of committing mischief to tho extent of 7s Gd was also admitted.

Sub-Inspector Fox said accused's van struck a road roller in Parnell Road and then glanced off and hit a motorcar. A doctor who examined accused 25 minutes later found him badly intoxicated and totally unfit to bo in charge of a motor-vehicle. xVccused's previous convictions included one for being intoxicated in charge of a motor-cycle in 1929.

Tho second charge, said Mr. Fox, referred to damage committed by accused after his arrest.

On the first charge accused was fined £ls, in default one month's imprisonment, and his licenco was cancelled for 18 months. He was convicted and ordered to make restitution on tho charge of committing mischief.
