ELEPHANT KILLS GIRLS
HOME TRAMPLED DOWN FATHER'S ' ATTEMPT AT RESCUE Two sisters, the elder aged 15, wore killed bv a tusker elephant near Dhekiajuli Road station, Assam, on the borders of a tea estate. Tho girls and their father were awakened by a wild tusker breaking down the house. The elephant seized the younger girl in its trunk, broke her neck with a kick of its forefoot and flung the body away. It then left tho house. In tho meantime, the father was endeavouring to drag the elder girl to safety. In doing so, her foot caught. Hearing her cry the elephant returned, caught the girl's leg in its trunk, tlung her some distance, rushed to the body arid trampled on it. The father returned with other men and torches and drove the elephant away.
