HYSTERICAL WOMEN
FILM STAR WELCOMED ROBERT TAYLOR IN ENGLAND® t LONDON, August 29 Half an hour before tho film star Robert Taylor arrived at Waterloo Station after his journey from America extra police were called out and linked arms to prevent a crowd of hysterical women from rushing the platform. The station rang with the shrieks of girls standing on th& seats and , waving wildly.Later, hundreds of film - struck women, many with greying hair, took part in a hysterical reception to an absent Robert Taylor at Claridge's. In spite- of aching hearts and feet, they, besieged the hotel hoping for his appearance, but the only Robert they saw was ope in a bluo uniform, who told them their idol was not at tho hotel, having gone to Paris'. One disheartened girl declared her . intention of "concentrating on Tommy Farr."
Mr. Walter Newling, formerly Mayor of East Ham, says: "Not only were the ■ women welcomerjs badly let down, but they let down England and Englishwomen." Similar scenes had occurred at Southiampton.
