SCOTTISH YOUTH BALLY KING AND QUEEN CHEERED SPEECH BY HER MAJESTY By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received July 0, (5.5 p.m.) British Wireless RUGBY, July 8 Twenty-three thousand children, all members of Scottish youth movements, gave the King and Queen a groat welcome to-day when they attended a youth rally on the international Rugby field at Murrayfield. The children assembled in lines in the arena and cheered continuously for 20 minutes as Their Majesties, accompanied by the two young Princesses, passed among them. During the day the King nlso held a levee, at which officers of the Scottish regiments, Navy and Air Force were presented to him. The Queen to-day made her first public speech sinco her accession in acknowledging the conferment of a honorary doctorate of laws by Edinburgh University. She said that as a Scotswoman she knew the high value her fellow-countrymen set upon education, and the important part which Edinburgh University played in tko civil and national life of Scotland. TRADITIONAL CEREMONY "FAIR WATER" AS RENT LONDON, July 8 In a picturesque traditional ceremony to-day at Holyrood House, the Laird of Craufurdland, Mr. J. D. Houison Craufurd, presented the King with a basin of "fair water" as rent for lands granted to his ancestors by King James V.
