ADVANCES OVERSEAS

ENGLISH CHINA DEARER

Wholesale houses, now stocking up with overseas goods for the Christmas trade, are being advised of rises in prices for many classes of goods, chiefly in the fancv section.

English manufacturers of crockery are marking up prices and for English china there appears to be almost a general 20 per cent advance. One big English manufacturer of glassware has increased prices by 10 per cent, while most earthernware lines are affected by reduced discounts, which represent advances in cost of 7} ro 10 per cent. Fancy goods in which rubber figures show rises on the English market up to 25 per cent. Toilet goods are very little affected, except that composition combs are about 15 per cent dearer.
