STATE HOUSING

ADDITIONAL SCHEME PLANS FOR 76 HOMES ONE TREE HILL AREA SUBDIVISION AND ROADING A scheme for the erection of 76 State houses on part of the Cadman and Williamson estates in the One Tree Hill district was outlined at a meeting of the borough council last riight. when a plan showing the proposed reading and subdivision of the area was received from the Director of Housing Construction. The plan was approved, subject to minor alterations being made. The town clerk, Mr. A. Leese, reported that the plan provided for dividing the area, which is off Campbell Road and adjoining the hospital endowment property at the junction of Great South and Campbell Roads, into 76 sections. There were 6-3 single and 13 two-unit houses shown on the plan. Most of the sections were of onefifth of an acre, Mr. Leese added. The minimum frontage was 50ft. for singleunit houses, and for two-unit dwellings the frontages were as much 3s 90ft. The property to hi? subdivided belonged to the Government.

The Director of Housing Construction mentioned in his letter to the council that complete engineering plans in respect of roading and sewerage would be submitted later.

HAMILTON TENDERS REFUSED £250 HIGHER THAN MASTERTON [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Wednesday Stating that the tenders received for the construction of State houses in Hamilton were £2-30 a house higher than those for similar houses in Masterton. the Under-Secretary in charge of Housing. Mr. J. A. Lee. M.P. has decided that the tenders are unsatisfactory and states that he will decline them all and re-advertise the contracts. The tenders received worked out at 24s a square foot, stated Mr. Lee.

There was absolutely no reason why the cost of housing in Hamilton should be greater than elsewhere, said Mr. C. A. Barrel!, in making the announcement. It was to be hoped the new tenders would be more in keeping with those quoted in other centres.
