AMBULANCES BUSY
HOSPITAL TRANSFERS
FIVE VEHICLES ENGAGED
An indication of how the Auckland St. John Ambulance Association is called upon at times to assist in the transfer of patients at the Auckland Hospital was shown yesterday, when a total of 48 transfers were carried out by members of the association. The ambulances were working at high pressure at one stage in the afternoon when five of them were in commission at the hospital. The task of transferring the patients in most cases involved at least two journeys. They had to be taken from the wards to the department where they received attention and then had to bo conveyed back to their wards or to other parts of the hospital. The association yesterday experienced one of its busiest days this year. One of the calls, which was received from the Henderson district, necessitated a long walk over a clay road. Owing to the state of the ground after the heavy rain the stretcher-bearers were unable to rest, but the patient was conveyed to the ambulance without suffering any inconvenience.
