THE MENACE OF WAR
[by TELEGRAPH' —SPECIAL REPOItTER.I WHANGAEEI, Wednesday
Further reference to his remarks regarding the possiblo danger of an outbrcak of war was made by the actingPrime Minister, the Hon. P. Fraser, in a statement issued this evening.
"My remarks in regard to the danger of a rupture in international relationships, carrying with it the danger of a possible outbreak of war, were based exclusively on the published cable news," Mr. Fraser said. "They were part of a brief resume of world affairs in which I emphasised the menace of war, due to the overthrow of democratic principles in various countries, the weakening of the power and effectiveness of co-operation through tho League of Nations and the consequent loss of goodwill among the nations. "They formed no more than a personal opinion based upon my own interpretation of the world position, and had no other significance. Published apart from their context, they may have conveyed a different impression."
