BRITISH CLAIMS OPPOSED ATTITUDE OF AMERICA (Received Juno 13. 5.5 p.m.) NEW YORK. Juno 12 The Washington correspondent of the United Press says that, although not acquiescing in nil the British claims to South Polar lands, the State Department does not intend to dispute the claims at present. The department believes that in spite of the Imperial Conference's action, there is no immediate prospect of the development and exploitation of the natural re. sources of Antarctic territory.

Furthermore the department will insist that actual occupation, colonisation and exploitation are necessary to establish claims of sovereignty.
