GERMAN ZEPPELINS DR. ECKENSrsT ASSURANCE WASHINGTON, May 27 Dr. Eckener told tho Sub-Committee on Military Affairs of tho Senate yesterday that ho believed airships of tho Zeppelin type would never again be needed by Germany as an instrument of warfare because they were easy targets for fighting aeroplanes. Ho said Britain had abandoned her military airship programme for tho same reason. Dr. Eckener denied that helium was impracticable for lifting Zeppelins and requested that Germany be permitted to Use it for commercial purposes.
