THE CITY MARKETS
SCARCITY OF LEMONS ABUNDANCE OF CELERY CABBAGE IN HEAVY SUPPLY Dessert apples, pears and tomatoes sold fairly well at the City Markets yesterday. The supply of outdoor tomatoes will soon be finished, but hothouse tomatoes are now available in good supply. The value of hothouse grapes fell slightly, especially for samples of poorer quality. Good lemons were scarce and values were high. Passion fruit, cape gooseberries, figs and persimmons were, in fair demand only, with values lower. The market was still glutted with cabbages and this vegetable again sold at low prices, which rose slightly toward the end of the sale. Celery was also marketed in more than sufficient quantities. Owing to weather conditions lettuce was scarce and the small supply was of poor quality. Supplies of pump-1 kins were large and prices much lower, j Kumeras were also cheaper than last, week. Potatoes were in' good supply with a tendency to lower prices.
