Y.W.C.A. ACTIVITIES

NEW MEMBERS ENROLLED PLANS FOR THE WINTER The Junior Women's Club of the Y.W.C.A. held a successful Coronation tea party yesterday afternoon in the association's rooms, a number of new members being enrolled. The guests were received by Mrs. M. Rudd, president. and Mrs. K. O'Halloran and Mrs. D. Crowhurst were in charge of arrangements. Members of the committee who assisted were Mrs. P, Carter, Mrs. Priestley, Mrs. M. Hodson, Mrs. Z. Roberts and Mrs. A. Williams. During the afternoon, pianoforte solos were given by Mrs. Webster, songs by Mrs. W, Young and Mrs. A. Fisher, and violin solos by Mrs. T. B. Fisher. It was decided that the club would in the future meet fortnightly, alternatively in the afternoon and evening, instead of monthly. An informal tea was also held last evening to enable business girls to meet Miss Jean Harmsworth, the new physical director. Miss .Agnes Kennedy. president of the Health and Recreation Committee, introduced Miss Harmsworth to those present. The proposed schedule is to include gymnasium, ballroom dancing, Scandinavian, English and Scottish dancing, also Chechetti and revised Greek dancing. The hall was decorated with chrysanthemums and poppies in shades of bronze and gold, hydrangeas and greenery in green and red tonings being massed upon the stage. Tea was served by members of the committee, and the guests were received bv Miss Elsie Bennet, general secretary of the association.

Later in the evening young business girls were entertained at a fraternity party, when Aliss Helena Mackv, president- of the fraternity council, received the guests. Aliss F. Smytheman, the secretary, was also present, the pianists being Aliss L. Curzon and Miss L. Bungay, The evening gave girls an opportunity to introduce their friends to the fraternity, and to discuss the winter programme, which will include badminton, recreational gym., travelogue, Indian basket-making, floral art and Tyrolese embroidery. Games and competitions based on Coronation subjects were played.
