ILLICIT LIQUOR
FINE OF £SO IMPOSED POLICE SEARCH OF HOUSE [by telegraph—own correspondent] TE KUITI, Tuesday A fine of £SO was iiriposed upon Norman McMillan by Mr. F. H, Levien, S.M., yesterday on charges of keeping liquor for sale in a proclaimed area and failing to declare liquor. McMillan pleaded guilty. Sergeant Sparks said accused's house had been under observation since about February 12. Men, many of them Maoris, had been seen to go into tbo house and come out intoxicated. When a search warrant was executed on April 21, 10 full quart bottles of ale were found in the house and 12 dozen full quarts in a garage used by accused. He had since Janiiary purchased 39 dozen quarts from Hamilton. He admitted he had not told the firm the liquor was coming to a proclaimed area, nor had lie declared it.
