ARREST RESISTED

YOUNG MAN WITH CAR INCIDENT AT ST. HELIERS A disturbance at Cliff Road, St. Helicrs, late on Friday niglit, was responsible for the appearance of Norman Butcher, mechanic, aged 23, in the Police Court on Saturday, Pie was charged before Messrs. J. Hislop and J. B. Paterson, J.P.'s, with being disorderly while drunk and with resisting arrest. He pleaded guilty to both charges. Detective-Sergeant McHugh said that shortly after 11 p.m. on Friday a resident of St. Heliers complained to the police that he saw a motor-car driven along the waterfront road in an erratic manner. A patrol car went to the scene and found a car stationary on a steep portion of Cliff Boad. The'accused and his friend were attempting to push the car. When Detective Wilson asked accused. his name he at first refused to give it, and when asked for his driver's licence he became abusive. "The accused caused considerable disturbance in the neighbourhood," said Mr. McHugh, "and he resisted and struggled violently when the polico tried to get him into their car. He has not been in trouble before." On the first charge accused was convicted and discharged and on the charge of resisting arrest lie was convicted .and lined £3, in default seven days' imprisonment.
