MATCHES ON SATURDAY GRAMMAR BEATS ST. LUKE'S EXCITING PLAY WITNESSED Some of the brightest hockey that has been seen in Auckland for many years was provided in the match between Grammar Old Boys and St. Luke's, the principal fixture held by the Auckland Hockey Association at the Ilemuera grounds on Saturday. The game was of inter-provincial standard and was played at a fast rate throughout. For the most part the teams were evenly matched, but in the closing stages Grammar Old Boys took control, to win by 0 goals to 4. In tlie curtain-raiser, Papatoetoe had little difficulty in defeating a weak Y.M.C.A. eleven by 8 f° 0- There was a dearth of scientific hockey in the remaining contest, in which Somcrvillo prevailed over Mount Eden, to win by 7 goals to y. Mount Eden, however, continued to show an improvement on its last season's form. University had the bye. Following were the results: — Grammar, 6; St. Luke's, 4. Papatoetoe, 8; Y.M.C.A., 0. Somervillo, 7; Mount Eden, 3.
