LONDON MARKETS

SETTLEMENT CONCLUDED outlook: now healthier (Received May 7. 5.5 p.m.) LOXDOX. May 6 The settlement to-day on the London Stock Exchange concluded without any defaulters. The City correspondent of the Australian Associated Press understands that a number of weak open positions were negotiated bv meanf« of a fund, to which several leading brokers contributed. Others accepted heaw losses.

The markets naturally were inactive throughout the day but the outlook is now healthier.

Mining houses vigorously deny that financial groups were responsible for the plump in gold shares. On the contrary these groups supported the market when a stampede seemed inevitable and as a result were bearing a considerable proportion of the loss.
