IMPERIAL CONFERENCE An Imperial Conference" was being held in London half a century ago. The following cablegram, which..appeared in the New Zealand Herali> of May 9, 1887, is of interest-: "At yesterday's meeting of the con fereuce the subjects which have beei discussed since the opening of thi meeting were reviewed- With reiei ence to the naval defence of Australia the draft for carrying out the decision which has been arrived at by the conference was agreed to Regarding the proposal of the Pacific cable the creneral opinion of the delegates was Favourable to the prospects of success On Monday next the final sittings ot the conference will take place when the administration of New Guinea will be included among the subjects to be discussed." .
