WESTFIELD VALUES SMALL YARDINGS FORWARD ADVERSE WEATHER EFFECTS The adverse weather conditions were reflected io the yardings of cattle at the Westfield weekly stock sale yesterday, when comparatively few head were forward. In addition to the difficulties of moving stock, paddocks are generally reported to be water-logged and are suffering already from the early wintry conditions. The bench of buyers was also relatively small and business was dull. An occasional brightening in the demand was noticeable when stock of outstanding quality was offering, but bidding was never brisk. The demand for store cattle continues to be firm with boner stock selling at good prices under competition from the freezing industries. Potter bulls sold at prices ranging to £8 10s. The same figure was the best realisation for dairy cattle. Values generally were fairly well maintained in that section, but several lines failed to make reserve figures. Only good sorts, close to profit, met with competition. Values for beef cattle wire very firm on "Westfield rates of yesterday, while boners and store cattle also met with a good sale. RANGIRIRI QUOTATIONS The Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Limited, reports having held its monthly stock sale at Rangiriri, when approximately 800 head of cattle were penned. Beef cattle were penned in medium numbers and sold at recent quotations. Fat Jersey cows and boners were entered in large numbers and these sold under brisk competition at advanced rates. In the store cattle section buvers were not keen to purchase, and competition was only forthcoming for lots showing quality. An extra htavy entry of dairy cattle was penned, including the advertised herd on account of Mrs. R. Bloomfield, Pukekapia. Competition was not keen and prices not as high as anticipated. Values for bullocks dropped from 20s to 30s head and heifers and cows were fully 20s lower. The sale opened at easier price levels, which fell further as selling progressed. Good bullocks averaged £10; best prime heavy heifers, £7 17s 6d to £S 15s; medium, £7; light, £5 to £5 15s; heavy prime cows, to £7 15s; medium, £G 10s; light, £4 10s to £5 ss.
