ORANGE BUD PLEASES GOOD FIVE BY HELOISE IRISH FIDDLE AND LISNACREE [ilV TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] CR RISTCHURCH, Tuesday Main interest in the track work at Ricearton to-day was centred in horses booked to race at the South Canterbury Jockey Club's autumn meeting on Saturday. The No. 1 track, next to the course proper, was open for galloping. and it provided fast going. Mercenary was a length in front of Giselle at the end of half a mile along the back in 50s. Cvrillian beat Brimak over the same ground in 49 1-os. Miracle covered a mile in 1.42 3-5. Silver Sight strode over six furlongs in 1.19. The best over this distance was credited to Orange Bud, who registered 1.16 l-o, the last four in 50 1-os.
Irish Fiddle and Lisnacree were together at the end of half a mile along the back in 48 3-ss. Emissary occupied 50 3-ss, but was held in restraint over the early part. Lustra 1 and Lofty followed in 50 l-ss. La Meri beat Phalanyx from the half mile in 48 3-ss. Coming Star recorded 49 3-ss. Fiord was a length in front of Paper Note, with Wine Card two lengths away, after covering five furlongs in 1.1 1-5, the last four in 48 3-ss. Heloise beat Vola Dale and Rousseau over five furlongs in 1.1 3-ss, the last four in 48 2-ss. Monastic and Sky Pilot were responsible for a spectacular display over two rounds of the country. The latter created a good impression by his fast and accurate jumping. He is to accompany Monastic and Haere Tonu on a North Island trip, embracing Hawera, Te Rapa and Ellerslie. Paliu and Greek Gold are to be raced at the same meetings. Haere Tonu jumped six hurdles, having to be kept up to his work throughout. Full Throttle is the latest recruit to hurdling and had some schooling over the pony hurdles, Nocturnus accompanying him as tutor. He shaped exceptionally well. Gay Lyric, by Philamor from Gay Sonnet, has rejoined Mrs. J. Campbell's stable, and Lady Kate is also now a member of the same team. Knoekfin has been lame behind since racing at Waimate and will not be at Washdvke on Saturday.
ENGLISH CLASSICS DERBY AND OAKS PAYMENT AGA KHAN WELL REPRESENTED [from our own correspondent] LONDON, April 3 Originally there were 315 entries for the Derby, to be run at Epsom on Juno 2, and 254 entries for the Oaks, to be run on June 4. After the second acceptance there are to-day 78 aspirants for the Derby and 62 left in the Oaks. A final forfeit has to be declared ten days or so before the events. The Aga Khan, who furnished first and second, Mahmoud ahd Taj Akbar, in last year's Derby, retains five of his original seven nominations. Most experts consider Le Grand Due and Ali Pasha to be the pick, yet there are whispers to the effect that Pkerozshah has wintered well and developed into a grand young horse. The others are Dharamour and Mubarak, Prince Aly Khan has left in his Dewhurst winner, Sultan Mahomed. Tlio Prince's horse is said to have come along nicely. Mr. Marshall Field's Foray is one of the most discussed three-year-olds, and others include The Hour (Sir' L. Philipps), Pascal (Mr. H. E. Morriss), Full Sail (Lord Boscbery), and Goya H. All these were good as two-year-olds. The Maharaja of Rajpipla's Rajput Prince is in M. Marsh's Lambourn stable. Lord Astor's Candidate Lord Astor has Cash Book, by Cameronian out of Volume, to represent him.
Lord Derby has four comparative "unknowns" from which to choose. These are Short Commons, Snowfall, tColonsay and Settling Day. Fair Copy (not a Derby entry) is much fancied for the Guineas. His Majesty has nothing in the "Derby, but in an Oaks acceptance, which can be described as fully representative if not distinguished, the Royal colours can be carried by Polonaise. Sir J. Jarvis' Gainsborough . Lass is there. Sho was a more than just useful type last year. W. Jarvis, as trainer, and the Earl of Harewood as owner, are doing very well during the early weeks of the flat season. The stable is in good form, having had five successes, four of them being with Lord Harewood's horses. Limewash, this week, won the Oadbv Plate at Leicester. Limewash is the first winner sired by the King's horse, LimeJight, who stands at the Wolferton Stud at Sandringham at a fee of £9B. The son of Pharos will bo remembered as ail exceptionally good horse. Limewash is a good-looking filly out of Illusion. The way in which she wore down the betterfancicd Scotch Widow suggests that sho should develop into a good stayer. Unusual Colours The young Duchess of Norfolk is very keen about horses, and it is not unlikely that she will own some good stock. Her recently-registered colours were unsuccessfully carried by Scampi in a two-year-old plate ,at Leicester. These colours are unusual, yet they are only black and white. The black jaclcet has a large Mickey Mouse in white and black, worked on front and back. The cap is white-. The family of Strutt are well known in the saddle as amateur riders. I
NEW PLYMOUTH TRACK REFRESHER GOES WELL [BY TELEGRAM! —OWN CORRESPONDENT] NEW PLYMOUTH, Tuesday After a spell of dry weather the tracks at New Plymouth were fast for training operations this morning, when both the trial grass and the plough were in Use. The outstanding effort of the morning was a good six furlongs by Refresher.

She was being kept up to her work at the finish, but come home strongly. Don Erma strode over a mile, running the last seven furlongs in l.&ty. He is in capital order and will probably race at Hawera and To Rapa next month. On the trial grass Refresher finished strongly to beat Ringside by a neck, with Glcnthawn a little over a length away, over six furlongs in 1.15. Ringside made the pace and ran the first two furlongs in 24s and the half-mile in 48s. Over the last furlong "Refresher drew up and had a little in reserve at the finish.
