FROM 18,745 TONS [by telegraph—own correspondent] VTAIHI, Friday The following information has been cabled to London by the Martha Gold Mining Company (Waihi), Limited: — For the period ended March 13, comprising 22 crushing days, 18,745 tons of ore were crushed for a result of 5058 fine ounces of gold and 40.614 fine ounces of silver. This includes 1951 tons mined from the Grand Junction area, which yielded 524 fine ounces of go! 11 and 1653 line ounces of silver. No. 2 Level.—Bell reef: Sinking the Gardiner winze, the next 50ft. assays 16s 3d a ton. The lode is about 2Jft. wide. No. 4 Level. —Bell reef: Gardiner rise, the first 44ft. assays 10s 6d a ton. and the next 42ft. shows the vein to be small and of little or no value. The rise has holed through to the winze sunk from No. 2 level. No. 7 Level. —North branch of the Martha lode: In the rise on this vein the next 16ft. is ore of good grade about 2ft. wide. No. 9 Level. —North branch of the Martha lode: Driving west the next 23ft. assays 30s a ton. The width of the lode is about 2ft. STEEL SUPPLIES BRITISH MOTOR INDUSTRY Reports that a shortage of steel in Great Britain is constituting a handicap to the motor manufacturing industry do not apply to all sections of the trade. It has been stated in messages from England that the extended use of steel for armament requirements has affected the supplies available for the manufacture of cars, both for the British market and for export.
