CRICKETERS OF YEAR

WISDEN'S FIVE PLAYERS OPINION ON TEST MATCHES LONDON, March 10 W. Copson (Derbyshire), T. S. Worthington (Derbyshire), A. R. Gover (Surrey), C. J. Barnett (Gloucester), and the Indian player V. Merchant, are designated the five cricketers of the year in Wisden's Almanack. The editor of Wisden's, Mr. Wilfred Brookes, says opinion in England that the test matches should be played to a finish is steadily growing. He thinks the test matches in Australia can hardly have been less interesting than some of those played in England in recent years. Certainly there was no decline in the attendances in Australia, which cannot be imagined to be due to genuine admiration of slow play, and Mr. Brookes assumes that the Australians are willing to risk being bored because they know they are going to see a definite result. ENGLISH TEAM NEW SOUTH WALES GIFTS SYDNEY, March 11 The New South Wales Cricket Association yesterday bade farewell to the English cricketers and presented to each member of the team a cigarette case made of Australian wood. The visitors had luncheon at Government House.
