OUTING FOR ORPHANS
GUESTS OF MOTOR TRADE Saturday was "Sunshine T)av" for the orphan children of Auckland. Ibis is tho annual outing given to the children in the various orphanages by the Auckland Motor J rade Association, and consists of a motor drive and an afternoon spent as the guests of 3lr. C. F. Brookes, at Tui Glen, Henderson. From the 95 motor-ears teams were formed, each under a captain niicl allotted to each institution, fhe .Salvation Army orphanage team of 1 ] cars, under Mr. Sinton, carried 64 Leslie orphanage, Mcadowbank ■ Williams), . r >2; Dockland Kond (Mr. Seaward), 40; ol England (Mr. Turnbull), 7<; Hmvl , ( ' k Roman Catholic (Mr. Hood), (>(>; Manurewa Baptist (Mr. Cadinan). 00, Wesley (Mr. Seabrook), oO; Mount Smart Road (Mr. Roberts), 2<; Dingwall (Mr. Spragg), ,60; total, 40l children. . , . n . „ The many attractions at lui Wen were thoroughly enjoyed by the children. During the afternoon sweets ana fruit were distributed. At 4.30 p.m. the car horns were sounded and Irom all directions the children came in response to them. Within ten minutes the ears were under way, conveying then happy charges to their homes. Tne organiser, Mr. T. G. Spry, secretary to the Auckland Motor Trade Association, estimated that nearly 4000 car miles were run oil Saturday.
