DEEP-SEA FISHING

AUCKLANDER'S SUCCESS [by TELECRAriI OWN COKUKSPONDKNT] RUSSELL, Sunday Exceptionally good catches have been experienced by visiting fishermen in the Hav of Islands and at Deep Water Cove over the last week, and in the opinion of lannchinen the season so far has excelled any other since 1925-2 G. A record for tho season in the time lie was fishing was established by Mr. H. J. Court, of Auckland, who in days' actual fishing from the launch Posemarv caught 19 fish of a total weight of 49901b. Of these, 17 were striped marlin and two were mako sharks. Since last Monday afternoon Mr. Court has landed 10 fish, of a total weight of 27041b. All these were striped marlin, the largest three being of 3301b., 3101b. and 2981b. respectively. On Fridav Mr. Court landed three fish, weighing 2501b., 2821b. and 3101b. All the°fish were caught in the Bay of Islands and were good fighters. A Dunedin fisherman, 31 r. 11. Simpson, fishing off the yacht Ozone, caught three striped marlin, weighing 2/olb., 2121b. and 3871b., and Mrs. I. JJ. Stewart, of Auckland, fishing from the launch Avalon, landed a striped marlin of 3191b. All these fish were taken at Deep Water Cove.
