TONSONBY CLUB REGATTA LIGHT WEATHER CONDITIONS LARGE NUMBER OF ENTRIES The Ponsonby Cruising Club held its annual regatta on Saturday afternoon, llio auxiliary scow Pahiri, owned by Captain J. McKinnon, was flagship, and was moored off the Western Reclamation, all races starting and finishing between the flagship and the wall.

There was practically no wind when the first five or six races were started, but shortly after 3 o'clock a pood sailing: breeze set in from tho north nnd remained steady for the remainder of the afternoon. Largo entries were received and some interesting racing was witnessed.

The flagship was decorated for tho occasion nnd was well patronised by members nnd visitors. Afternoon tea was provided, and, at the conclusion of the regatta, the commodore, Mr. J. Willcocks, thanked Captain nnd Mrs. McKinnon for tho uso of tho Rahiri. A vole of thanks was also accorded tho honorary secretary, Mr. C. Robertson. The officers for tho day were:—Starter, Mr. IT. Claridue; timekeeper, Mr. J. Willcocks: judge, Mr. H. Moylan; recorder, Mr. C. Robertson. Mullet Boat Classes

The competitors in the race for class H boats were Arawa. Omatere, Spray. Corona and Starlight,. At gunfire Spray crossed tho line just ahead of Omatere, Arawa and Corona. Starlight was Vim late. Progress was very slow until off Prince's Wharf, when a light breeze was picked up.

Corona headed Spray at this stage and at King's Wharf was Qm 13s in front of Spray, which led Omatere by 4s, Stnrlight being lm 33s astern of Omatere. Arawa got becalmed and retired. After passing King's Wharf Omatere overhauled Spray, nnd further down tho harbour the latter gave place to Starlight.

. The raco started at 2.33 p.m. The finishing times were:—Corona (scr), 5h 10m 2(is; Omatere (2m), 5h 14in 3<>s; Starlight (2m), oh 18m lis: Spray (8m), f>h 19m l!)s.

There was a little more life in the breeze when classes L nod N were sent away and at the fall of the last flag Marika crossed the line' first, followed by Macushla, Valkyrian. Waiapu, Tamariki, Koninri, Waialae and Wairerc in that order. Valeria and Konara were late, tho former Jni and (ho latter 3dm. Macushla gradually worked her way into the lead .and Tamariki moved up to third position. Passing King's Wharf the times of the lending boats were:—Macushla, 2h 57m 20s; Marika. 2h 58m 555; Tamariki, 2h s!»in 20s; Waiapu, 31l Om 50s; Koninri, 3h lm -15s; Valkyria, 3h 2m 50s. Valeria and Wairerc followed some'minutes Inter. Marika passed Macushla below King's Wharf, but the latter regained her lead when the breeze freshened.

The 18ft. V class boats made a good showing as they stood for the starting lino. Irena was first away and was closely followed by Surprise, Riptide and Vaalele. Annette was first away in the race for class S and next to her came Marlene, Sirona, Ma ha na, Sceptre, Clio and Gannett. The early part of this event was more or less a. drifting match, but when the breeze wa« experienced Sirona drew away from the rest of the fleet except Annette, which was always a * close second.
