OYSTERS AND FISH
ORGANISATION OF INDUSTRY COMMITTEE GATHERING DATA [BV TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] INVEKCARGILL, Friday The plans of the Government for the development of the oyster industry in New Zealand were discussed by the Minister of Industries and Commerce, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, in an interTie w to-day. " The Government is keenly interested," said Mr. Sullivan, " in placing the oyster industry, and, indeed, the fishing industry generally, on a better basis. Not only is this necessary from the point of view of those engaged in the industry, but also what is more important, it is in the interests of the consuming public. There is also the question of the conservation of our national supplies, and this mutter will require an extensive investigation. " The question of preparing a plan for the reorganisation of the fishing industry has been referred to the Bureau of Industry, which recommended as a preliminary step that a small committee be appointed to gather the necessary data, especially on the problem of distribution and marketing, so that the whole position and the needs of the industry and of consumers can be examined by the bureau with a view to securing reorganisation and coordination. " This committee has now been appointed and its inquiries will embrace the oyster industry."
