AINTREE GRAND NATIONAL

MINIMUM WEIGHT REDUCED Owing to the unwieldy fields, conditions of the Liverpool Grand National were altered in 1.931 so as to keep out horses with poor qualifications. One change was to raise the minimum from 10.0. to .10.7. With the maximum 12.7 this left the handieapper with a range of only two stone. Now the minimum has again been made 10.0, which will l.e better for the poorer performers and the handieapper, and horses at the top of the list will not now have the same advantage as in the past few years. In 1920 there were 66 starters for the National, and even the first year the minimum was raised there were 43. Since then numbers have been much fewer.
