CRICKET TOUR

ENGLISH PLAYERS MATCH AT HOBART VISITORS' STRONG LEAD OPPONENTS' SMALL SCORE 13y Telegraph-—Press Association —Copyright (■Received January 17, 5.5 p.m.) HOBART, Jan. 17 England continued its first innings yesterday in the cricket match against a combined Tasmanian and Australian team at Hobart, having lost eight wickets for 392 on Friday. This score was increased to -118. The innings lasted only a further 23 minutes, but was sufficient to see Hardstaff roach 110 in 134 minutes, scoring his first century of tho tour.

Hardstaff's form was more like that which he displayed last summer against Australia, when he was tho most successful batsman in tho team. He hit 10 fours and three sixes, and finally threw his wicket away.

Light rain fell during the adjournment, thus making the wicket fiery and providing Fames a,nd Copson with an opportunity which they were not slow to grasp. Tho wickets fell quickly, Badcock being tricked by an outswinger before he had scored. Three Wickets Down for 14 Runs Three wickets were down for 14 runs »t the luncheon adjournment, and shortly afterwards the score was seven for 48. Ward and Walsh held their end up. hut it was Oldfield who saved the side from complete disaster. He played a splendid innings, makiug 60 not out in 87 minutes and gaining valuable practice for the test matches. With the combined team out for 134, England could have enforced a followon, but preferred to give the record crowd of 11,000 people an exhibition of batting. Wyatt, in his last chance to justify his selection for the test matches, opened with Fishlock and scored 20 before his partner opened his account. He apparently found his wrist no inconvenience, for he drove and pulled vigorously, hitting seven fours in his first 50, which he made in even time. At stumps he was 68 not out. Fishlock Trapped and Caught

Fishlock used his feet well against Grimmett,' but was trapped in making an off-drive and was caught by BadCQpk near the fence. England, with one wicket down for 111, were 395 runs in the lead when ,-stumps were drawn. Details of the scores are:—?
